STOP H.R. 5034

STOP HR 5034 is the Facebook effort to fight a bill currently in congress which, if passed, would lead to severe limitation on wine shipping and severely hurt the small artisan wineries and progressive wine retailers that rely on direct wine shipping.

Listen to a radio interview by Clos LaChance's own Cheryl Murphy Durzy regarding H.R. 5034.

The Bill's Text: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.5034:

H.R. 5034 is the brainchild of the National Beer Wholesalers Association and is strongly supported by the Wine & Spirit Wholesalers Association along with most alcohol supporters across the nation.

The bill would forever prevent court challenges of laws that discriminate against out-of-state wine shippers. It was these sort of court challenges by wineries, retailers and consumers that led to the groundbreaking 2005 Granholm v. Heald Supreme Court decision that led to the creation of the direct to consumer wine sales channel.

If H.R. 5034 is passed, it will lead to the immediate introduction of discriminatory, anti-wine shipping bills in a number of states.

The Sponsors of H.R. 5034 are:
Rep. Bill Delehunt (D) MA
Rep. Howard Coble (R) NC
Rep. Mike Quigley (D) IL
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R) UT

Bottom Line: HR 5034 is a bill that threatens to end direct shipping of wine from wineries to consumers.
