Connoisseur's Guide to California Wines, Charles Olsen (July 2009): 40% Grenache; 20% Syrah; 15% Carignane; 15% Alicante Bouschet; 5% Cinsault; 5% Petite Sirah. Somewhat lighter on its feet than many of its Rhone-inspired cousins, Lila’s Cuvee is a rich, well-fruited, medium-weight working whose composed mix of ripeness, spice, dark-berry fruit and buoyant acidity adds up to a near-term appeals, but it will deepen and find added richness with a few years of age. 88 Points & One Puff

- Wine Enthusiast Magazine (July 1, 2009): This Rhône-style blend is a little rustic and sharp in tannins and acids. It shows a polished mouth of jammy blackberries, cherries and spices and could drink up to a year or two. 87 Points

www.winereviewonline.com, Paul Lukacs (Jun 23, 2009): A very tasty, fruit-forward wine, made with Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvédre, and Viognier, this plummy red offers plenty of pleasure in a sun-drenched California style. Though the grape varieties do hail originally from the Rhône Valley, the wine bears little resemblance to Rhône originals, offering no earthy, meaty secondary aromas or flavors. Instead, it’s American through and through. 88 points

- scmwine.blogspot.com, David Tong (May 27, 2009): An estate Rhône blend. Shows dark, jammy fruits and some oak on the nose. Rich and peppery, with spicy plum and blackberry flavours; well structured, with a good, long finish. 91 points with potential.

- E-Zine on Wine, Mark Squires (January/February 2009): This is a blend of 40% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignane, 15% Alicante Bouchet, and 5% each of Cinsault and Petite Sirah. It is rather modest in the mid-palate, with a lush texture thanks to the oak, which gives the wine a bit of a vanilla finish. There is good red fruit flavor popping through on the finish, though, as the oak does not obliterate it. The tannins are ripe and well integrated, just popping up a little on the finish, enough to give the wine some needed verve at first, but increasingly powerful with air, and then moderating quickly. The aromatics on the wine are lovely. A nice early effort, it is a flavorful and rather suave wine, although it finishes a bit short and it is a bit underwhelming for its price category. There were 255 cases produced. The suggested retail price is $40. 87 points
