Clos LaChance Wines
 
We produce estate-based wines from our 150-acre vineyard property in San Martin, CA.  These wines showcase the diversity of varietals that have popularized the Northern Central Coast region and excited winemaker Stephen Tebb.  “We have taken considerable time and effort to study our vineyard and plant varietals where they grow best.  With so many microclimates, each wine we produce truly embodies the terroir we’re blessed to work with day after day,” says Tebb.  “And, they reflect true varietal characteristics that wine lovers have come to enjoy.”

We produce wines under three categories:

  • Special Selections Series.  A limited production of bottlings from exceptional sites that merit the distinction of “Block” or “Vineyard Designate.” These wines include: Biagini Pinot Noir and Erwin Pinot Noir, among others.
  • Estate Series. On an annual basis, the winery produces small lots of wines that are worthy of the name "Estate." The fruit for these wines are grown exclusively in our Estate Vineyard and several of CK Vines’ Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard sites.
  • Hummingbird Series. A line of quality and affordable wines from our Estate Vineyard and other select Central Coast locations. Each wine is named after a species of Hummingbird that demonstrate similar characteristics of each wine varietal.

2005 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir
2005 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir  -  $50.00
Aromas of Holiday spices-cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, followed by dried cranberries and fresh cherries. Flavors of cherry, cola and baked cinnamon with hints of fresh floral components on the palate. Finishes with fresh cherries, pencil shavings and spice.

2005 Special Select Series Meritage  -  $50.00
A beautiful, deep ruby red. Aromas of ripe black cherries, anise, tobacco and clove/cinnamon spice. A hint of sweet vanilla and rosemary. Dried cherries and licorice on the entry with a lush blackberry dominating the mid-palate. Tannins and acid are both very prevalent, yet balanced, which makes this a beautiful wine with food. The finish is long, with hints of currants and again the rosemary.

2005 Whitestone Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon  -  $50.00
A big, bold Cabernet Sauvignon. Incredible complexity due to extensive barrel and bottle aging. Dark blackberry aromas with vanilla and classic Cabernet eucalyptus. Flavors of cassis, plum and blackberries dominate throughout the palate and into the long, smooth finish.

2005 Erwin Vineyard Pinot Noir  -  $40.00
A beautiful nose with aromas of bright cherries, black briar fruit and cola. Woodsy. Earthy, with hints of clove. The mouth starts off with dark plums and cherries. Anise and chocolate compliment the granite component found in towards the back palate. Long finish.

Elegant and balanced. Aromas of cherries and stewed strawberries. A slight smoky vanilla component. Flavors of dried cherries and rich berry jam. The finish is velvety and viscous.

2006 Biagini Vineyard Chardonnay  -  $35.00
On the nose, crisp green apple is balanced with citrus fruit aromas and subtle notes of orange blossom, pie crust, vanilla and spice. Ripe pear and mandarin orange appear on the entry with a yeasty, doughy mid-palate. Crisp citrus and mineral notes complete the finish.

A beautiful yellow gold color that will darken with bottle age. Made in the Sauternesstyle with botrytized grapes. Rich aromas of orange peels, honey, almonds and apricots. The flavors of dried peach, apricot, honey and toasty almonds are perfectly balanced with a natural sweetness and acidity.

Rich, dark ruby colored wine. Aromas of milk chocolate and black plums. On the palate, those cocoa characteristics dominate, along with red berries and a hint of baking spice. I also get some strong plum flavors that carry throughout the long, balanced finish.

2005 Estate Petite Sirah  -  $35.00

*ALMOST GONE* Aromas of concentrated blackberry, Marion berry and huckleberry with violet floral aromas that evolve into mocha, molasses and a touch of smoke and earth. Opulent favors of jammy black plum and currant with dark chocolate, hint of coffee bean and rich, chunky tannins that compliment the long finish.

2006 Estate Syrah
2006 Estate Syrah  -  $35.00
Smoky aromas of plums, cocoa and an underlying “meaty” flavor. Plums and dried cherry fruits dominate the palate, with hints of bittersweet chocolate and molé. A smooth velvety, long finish.

2006 Estate Zinfandel
2006 Estate Zinfandel  -  $35.00
Ripe, full-bodied and powerful, this is a big Zinfandel. The alcohol level is 16%; however, due to excellent weather conditions throughout the picking period of the 2006 vintage, we were able to extend hang-time and balance the fruit flavors with the higher alcohol level, and the heat is balanced with the bright fruit. Sweet raspberries on the nose, ripe plums and figs, along with a cinnamon spice. Dried cherries and raspberries on the palate, hints of cocoa and a rosemary. The finish is long and smooth, and I get a touch of the vanilla at the very end, from the oak ageing.

2005 Estate Cabernet Franc  -  $30.00
Aromas of dark cherry, and cranberries, with a hint of cedar and fresh herbs. Soft, ripe stone fruits such as plums and cherries on the palate. Finishes with smooth tannins and hints of cassis and star anise. A good choice for those that enjoy the fruit of Cabernet Sauvignon without the heavier characteristics.

*ALMOST GONE* Bright aromas of cranberry and strawberry with hints of red cherry.  Elements of vanilla and spearmint with a hint of carmel.  The smooth and silky texture has flavors or raspberry, strawberry, and bring cranberry.  The finish is long and smooth, with soft tannins and sweet berries.

Ripe strawberry, raspberry and cherry-cola aromas lead to hints of vanilla, brown sugar, nutmeg and cream. Flavors of boysenberry, cherry and cranberry fruit with spice, minerals and earth.

2006 Late Harvest Zinfandel  -  $25.00
Dark ruby-purple color with a rich viscosity when swirled around in my glass. Aromas of dried cranberries, powdered cocoa, strawberry syrup, vanilla and a hint of mint. A slight floral component−lavender. Flavors of vanilla and caramel open up to dark fruits. Plums and blackberries. Nuts and Zinfandel pepper on the finish.

NV Zinfandel Port  -  $25.00

Dark and rich. Aromas of dark chocolate, cherries, figs, brown sugar and baking spices. A slight floral note. Stewed cherries and milky chocolate, vanilla and jammy plum flavors. The higher alcohol balances well with the residual sugars. Long, velvety finish with a hint of white pepper.

2006 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay  -  $20.00
Aromas of sweet, scented pear and ripe Granny Smith apples. hints of tropical fruit with a touch of baking spices, hazelnut, and graham crackers. A faint floral aroma along with a touch of wet stones. The rich flavors of ripe white peaches dominates the mouth, along with a hint of juicy pear and tropical fruits that linger mid-palate. The finish is smooth, with traces of nutmeg and vanilla.

Aromas of sweet blackberries & blueberries with hints of rose petals, plum, vanilla & tobacco. Some cedar & anise spice. The mouthfeel of this wine is full & rich. Flavors of briary berry, currant & plum dominate the palate. Ripe tannins balance the fleshy fruit & leave a long, smooth finish.

Aromas of black plum and black cherry fruit with elements of smoke and vanilla along with violets and red licorice. Balanced flavors of raspberry and plum fruit combined with dried sage and sweet herb. Finishes with notes of wild cherry and tobacco.

NEW RELEASE Aromas of grass, gooseberry and meyer lemons jump from the glass, along with a hint of minerality. Flavors of gooseberry translate to the palate, with a pleasant grassy/herbal component. Citrus fruits and wet stone. Balanced acids make this a nice wine to pair with creamy cheeses.

Beautiful aromas of strawberry pie, rhubarb and granite. Flavors of fresh strawberries, raspberries with a mineral edge to it. Balanced acidity. Very dry, classic European-style.

*WINE OF THE WEEK 12/18/08-1/7/09*  This wine opens up with strong aromas of freshly cut green apple, melon and pear. A bowl full of tropical fruit salad (pineapples, bananas, mangos and papaya) is in there, as well as a hint of floral apple blossom. On the palate, the refreshing flavors of crisp apple and fresh citrus are balanced with an acidic component. The finish is fairly long considering that there was no oak used when making this wine. I really enjoy the lingering tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and banana.
