Clos LaChance Wines

We produce estate-based wines from our 150-acre vineyard property in San Martin, CA.  These wines showcase the diversity of varietals that have popularized the Northern Central Coast region and excited winemaker Stephen Tebb.  “We have taken considerable time and effort to study our vineyard and plant varietals where they grow best.  With so many microclimates, each wine we produce truly embodies the terroir we’re blessed to work with day after day,” says Tebb.  “And, they reflect true varietal characteristics that wine lovers have come to enjoy.”

We produce wines under three categories:

  • Special Selections Series.  A limited production of bottlings from exceptional sites that merit the distinction of “Block” or “Vineyard Designate.” These wines include: Biagini Pinot Noir and Erwin Pinot Noir, among others.
  • Estate Series. On an annual basis, the winery produces small lots of wines that are worthy of the name "Estate." The fruit for these wines are grown exclusively in our Estate Vineyard and several of CK Vines’ Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard sites.
  • Hummingbird Series. A line of quality and affordable wines from our Estate Vineyard and other select Central Coast locations. Each wine is named after a species of Hummingbird that demonstrate similar characteristics of each wine varietal.

You can also view our wines by varietal.
Information about our
past releases is also available, by vintage.

Special Selections Series:

2005 Special Select Series Meritage
2005 Special Select Series Meritage  -  $50.00
A beautiful, deep ruby red. Aromas of ripe black cherries, anise, tobacco and clove/cinnamon spice. A hint of sweet vanilla and rosemary. Dried cherries and licorice on the entry with a lush blackberry dominating the mid-palate. Tannins and acid are both very prevalent, yet balanced, which makes this a beautiful wine with food. The finish is long, with hints of currants and again the rosemary.
Qty:

2006 Lila’s Cuvee, Rhône Style Blend
2006 Lila’s Cuvee, Rhône Style Blend  -  $50.00
A rich, dark opaque, ruby color. The first and dominant aroma on the nose is a bakers spice, with hints of brambleberry fruit--blackberry, raspberry. Cocoa. Dried cherries and savory spice. Flavors of dried fruits, raspberries, chocolate and cherry pie. That savory component carries through to the mouth, in tandem with a solid acid and tannin base. Will age nicely and pair well with hearty meals.
Qty:

2007 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir  -  $50.00
A light ruby-purple, with rim variation. Slight sediment, due to no fining or filteration in the winemaking process. Cranberries, blueberries and cherries on the nose, with a hint of nuts. Cola is a key component of the aroma profile as well. On the palate, the fruit flavors carry through. The acidity is bright, and the tannins are firm for a Pinot Noir. This will be a nice bottle to lay down for a few years−at least 10. Mushroom and earth on the finish.
Qty:

2007 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir: Nancy's Block
2007 Biagini Vineyard Pinot Noir: Nancy's Block  -  $50.00
Fairly concentrated purple hues for a Pinot Noir. Aromas of strawberry, rhubarb, graham and sweet cherries. Hints of wet forest floor. Flavors of bright cherry fruit, strawberries and cola. The mid palate holds strong with sweet plums and finishes nicely with an earthy component and a hint of spice.
Qty:

2007 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay
2007 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay  -  $35.00
A lemony yellow with a slight cloudiness and some remnants of the less the wine was aged on. Very tropical fruit aromas: pineapples, Asian pears, apples and banana. The new French oak imparts the classic caramel and vanilla notes with a hint of toast, but the oak is very balanced with the fruit and solid acidity. A rich mouthfeel immediately upon entry, with the toasty oak and more subdued fruit flavors of pear and apple dominating the palate. Hints of butterscotch and vanilla on the finish. Pair with a chicken or fish dish with a creamy, buttery sauce and capers.
Qty:

2008 Biagini Vineyard Chardonnay  -  $35.00

A pale golden yellow. Slightly cloudy due to the unfiltered and unfined style of this wine. On the nose, I get caramel apples, butterscotch, creamy fresh butter with toast and fresh pears. A rich mouthfeel that confirms the nose—caramel apples, and creamy butter. High acids are well balanced with the rich oak component of this wine, making it a nice pairing with many foods, including lobster with butter and Chicken Alfredo.

2008 Liebeler Vineyard Chardonnay

Aromas of crisp green apples and Bosque pears with hints of almonds, gentle pantry spices and slight yeastiness, give this sparkling wine a great nose. The flavors of strawberries carry through, with crème frâiche and notes of coffee and cola. Bright acid and with soft, yet firm tannins. This is a wine that will lay down and age beautifully for 10 years minimum. An intense minerality that is so classic Santa Cruz Mountains rounds out this very balanced, cool climate Pinot Noir. Will pair nicely with lamb, salmon with balsamic sauce and deep fried turkey.

2006 Estate Cabernet Franc  -  $30.00
A rich, dark red ruby color. Aromas of tobacco, black plums and currants. Baker’s spice. Wonderfully fruity, bright cherries and raspberries. Flavors of dried cherries, chocolate and a slight herbaceousness. A long, velvety finish with hits of rosemary and dried cranberry.
Qty:

2006 Estate Grenache
2006 Estate Grenache  -  $30.00
This wine is a little on the dark side for a Grenache. But the concentration of fruit is incredible. Aromas of ripe strawberry and rhubarb pie jump out of the glass, followed by undertones of plums, spice and a hint of vanilla. The strawberry component follows through in the palate, but other red fruits are also apparent. Raspberry and red cherry. The finish is long and has notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. This wine has a very balanced acid and tannin component, making it a great pairing with many foods, including paella, BBQ chicken wings and calamari in tomato sauce.
Qty:

2006 Estate Petite Sirah
2006 Estate Petite Sirah  -  $28.00
Inky, dark opaque purple with a ruby rim. Rich chocolate, plums and blackberries on the nose, with raspberries, vanilla and spice. This is a wine not for the faint of heart. Big fruit is balanced by chewy tannins and a healthy dose of acid. The fruit stands out−baked blackberries and a little blueberry. A spicy finish. This wine begs for rich, hearty meals. Try it with a lasagne or steak au poivre.
Qty:

2006 Estate Syrah
2006 Estate Syrah  -  $28.00

A deep, opaque ruby color. Aromas of cherries, blackberries, smoke, dill and leather. A hint of all spice. Flavors of dried blackberries and dried strawberries. Meaty. Qty:

2006 Estate Zinfandel
2006 Estate Zinfandel  -  $28.00

Ripe, full-bodied and powerful, this is a big Zinfandel. The alcohol level is 16%; however, due to excellent weather conditions throughout the picking period of the 2006 vintage, we were able to extend hang-time and balance the fruit flavors with the higher alcohol level, and the heat is balanced with the bright fruit. Sweet raspberries on the nose, ripe plums and figs, along with a cinnamon spice. Dried cherries and raspberries on the palate, hints of cocoa and a rosemary. The finish is long and smooth, and I get a touch of the vanilla at the very end, from the oak ageing.

Qty:

2006 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay
2006 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay  -  $22.00
Aromas of sweet, scented pear and ripe Granny Smith apples. hints of tropical fruit with a touch of baking spices, hazelnut, and graham crackers. A faint floral aroma along with a touch of wet stones. The rich flavors of ripe white peaches dominates the mouth, along with a hint of juicy pear and tropical fruits that linger mid-palate. The finish is smooth, with traces of nutmeg and vanilla.
Qty:

2007 Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay  -  $22.00
Pale Yellow, starbright. Aromas of butterscotch, caramel, Pineapple, banana, and toasted marshmallow. A rich, milky caramel flavor meshes well the tropical fruit aspect of the wine. The toasty oak is apparent, but balanced. Mid palate acidity through the finish. The last thing I notice is the minerality component that is so classic Santa Cruz Mountains.

2007 Late Harvest Zinfandel
2007 Late Harvest Zinfandel  -  $19.00

A dark ruby red/purple. Great legs when I swirl the glass, showcasing the higher alcohol level of this wine. The nose emanates dried cranberries, caramel, maybe a little lavender. A hint of dusty cocoa and spice. On the mouth, flavors of dried cranberries and dark blackberries are interlaced with vanilla and peanuts. The sweetness and the tannins are very balanced. This wine would pair nicely with a chocolate crème burly.

Qty:

NV Zinfandel Port

Aromas of red plums and cranberries. Vanilla and cinnamon with undertones of dried cherry and a slight herbal note. Soft, velvety entry with subtle cherry fruit and plumy flavors. A bowl full of tropical fruit salad (pineapples, bananas, mangos and papaya) is in there, as well as a hint of floral apple blossom.
